Desperately Seeking Secretary

The Richard Jefferies Society is reaching out for a volunteer who might like to help with secretarial duties towards the end of 2025. The Society has had remarkably few secretaries in its 75 years as most have been in post for a long time. The current secretary has held the position for 20 years and is soon to retire.

The future Honorary Secretary role and responsibilities will cover the following needs of the Society:

1) Act as Secretary to the Society. This includes organising meetings, communicating agendas, and taking minutes at meetings.  Maintain the minutes book. Respond to requests from Exec. Council to carry out any general secretarial duties.

2) Receive all correspondence, telephone calls, emails, or other forms of communication to the Society, and reply to them, or direct them to the appropriate member of the Society.

3) Maintain the General Data Protection Regulations database.

4) Send appropriate archive material to the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, Chippenham and Swindon Library.

5) Coordinate the safe storage of current Society papers and archives that the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre will not accept.

6) Purchase stationery, stamps, etc. as necessary
